Latest updates – late June/early July 2018

Love Norbury by the Sea Festival:  as those of you who went will know, it was a great day.  The sun shone, there was great music and activities for the children.  In addition local resident Sue Ralph had her lovely long locks cut short in aid of the Cassandra Learning Centre.  People were really generous and Sue raised some £700. Sue sends her grateful thanks to all who contributed.

23 June:  A very busy day in Norbury

Friday 29 June, 3.30pm:  Norbury Manor Primary School’s Summer Fair.

Friday 20 July, Wool Workshop:  Norbury Knitters are planning a knitting and crochet workshop sharing and learning new skills.  People of all experience and none are very welcome.  It’s free and we can provide wool and needles, though do bring  your own if you prefer.  The workshop will be from 10.30am-12.30pm at Harlow Hall, corner of Stanford & Oakhill Roads – entrance in Oakhill Road which is accessible to people with mobility difficulties.

How about a trip to the seaside?  Members have suggested that we revive the popular coach trips that used to  be a feature of NVRA activities in the past.  Interested? Please let us know if it’s something you’d like to do, whether you would prefer a week day or a weekend, where you’d like to go – eg Brighton, Eastbourne, Arundel, Whitstable or somewhere else. If there is enough support we’ll arrange an outing  for September.  The cost will probably be somewhere between £15 & £20.

Parliament: Paul Cowling is once again organising a trip to Parliament on 29 January 2019.  The tour takes about 1.5hours and includes both the Commons & the Lords.  It is free.  Booking has to be taken early for security reasons.  If you’d like to go, please contact Paul direct:

Changes to the Refuse Collection:  Extensive changes are taking place to the refuse collection in September with the aim of improving the efficiency of the service as well as allowing for increased recycling.  It is hoped that using wheelie bins will also resolve the problem of lids coming off the boxes and rubbish blowing down the street.  Council information leaflets are being delivered now and over the next few weeks.

Committee Members:  NVRA is always looking for new members.  The more members we have the more activities we can help organise.  An hour or two a month is all that’s needed.  If you’d like to know more, please get in touch.

Membership Fees are now due for the year 2018-19.  Thanks to everyone who has paid already.  Fees remain at £5 per household and £2.50 for households with someone retired.  You can pay your fees to the Treasurer at 6 Oakhill Road and she will deliver your card within a few days.

With best wishes for an enjoyable Summer.

Ann Creighton for the NVRA Committee
